Ode to Bagan

by Emiel Van Den Boomen

Bagan temple with blue sky

Thousands of ancient Buddhist pagodas, temples and monasteries,
Rising above the plains of Bagan,
Standing strong for more than 800 years,
Guiding you on a journey to discover monuments of the past.

Stunning sunset in Bagan

The sunrise promising another glorious day,
Wherever you wander glimpses of archaeological beauty.

The sunset glow setting the pagoda on fire,
To leave visitors awestruck.

Sunset with Bagan temples

Amazing earthy red colored sanctuaries,
Withstanding the heat of the plains.
Secret passages and stairs to climb the structure,
Finally on top, the cooling wind.

Outstanding photos and one place I’d love to see. I can’t imagine how beautiful the area would be at first light.

Emiel, your photos left me in awe. What a beautiful collection of images from such an amazing place! I’m particularly intrigued by the lighting on your 2nd and 13th photos. Did you take them in the morning or in the afternoon?

Thank you so much Bama. The 2nd picture was taken during sunset. The 13th one I am not completely sure, but I think it was late in the morning. We had lots of cloudy days because of the rainy season (although it hardly rains in Bagan, only in other parts of Myanmar), but especially in the morning we sometimes had clear blue skies!

Very well-noted, Emiel. It sounds like I have to visit twice: after dawn and just before dusk. You’re very lucky to have such nice blue skies during your visit to Bagan. 🙂
